Veterinarians are the very protectors of animal lives but yet absent in the fight for climate change. The expertise is deeply needed to understand and mitigate the devastating impact of a warming planet on all creatures.

The absence of veterinarians in such spaces continues to speak volumes about the disconnect between the environmental crisis and its consequences for the animal kingdom. Yet there is need for collaboration from everyone in the fight for climate justice.

There is no optimism or pessimism there is only action.

This fantastic initiative unites veterinarians and veterinary organisations worldwide, empowering them to take meaningful action on climate stability, sustainability, and biodiversity—goals fully aligned with the FVE Strategic Plan 2026 - 2030.

We are pleased to inform you that the Japan Veterinary Medical Association (JVMA) has officially decided to support the WVEA, as outlined in the attached document.

We strongly believe that veterinarians have an important role to play in addressing environmental issues and contributing to a better future for our society.

I strongly support WVEA as action on climate change is now critical, the current rate of warming climate represents an extinction level threat to humans, animals and the environment.

As vets we are ideally placed to take action and the WVEA is an ideal platform for collaboration between veterinary associations across the globe to share knowledge, expertise and tools to assist with reducing the carbon footprint of vets such as the world first Climate Care Program.

Vets can help normalise effective climate action in the broader community while also exploiting the opportunities of the low carbon economy . This will enhance veterinary practice and the future of animal health.
