The newly released World Veterinary Association’s Strategic Plan includes climate and sustainability as one of its key focuses under One Health. WVA represents the global veterinary profession and inclusion in their strategic plan is hugely significant.
At last year’s WVA General Assembly in Washington DC (pictured), WVEA founder Dr. Kessels gave a presentation on WVEA and our mission – veterinarians acting collaboratively, and with urgency, on climate, sustainability and biodiversity.
Alongside WVA One Health Chair (& WVEA Ambassador) Dr Mark Schipp, WVEA looks forward to supporting these fantastic new strategic goals.
Below we have highlighted a small number of these goals (those that pertain to climate and sustainability). To see the full range of goals across all areas, read WVA’s strategic plan here.
WVEA is delighted to be in partnership with WVA.
Excerpts from WVA’s Strategy
As a federation of national, regional, and specialty veterinary associations, the WVA recognizes the increasing need for international alignment in veterinary medicine, particularly in areas such as disease control, food safety, animal welfare, medicines availability, and the ecological impact of health systems. These global challenges require coordinated global solutions.
At the heart of WVA’s work lies the One Health approach, promoting the interconnected health of humans, animals, and the environment. Through partnerships with international organizations and authorities, the WVA leads global advocacy, support, and education initiatives to shape the future of veterinary medicine.
